Readers! I cannot, in good conscience, go any further here without relaying a valuable piece of information gleaned – nay, torn – from this day, today, the 10th of January, 2010.
*Ahem*
No matter how fidgety you may be; no matter how idle you feel after spending a full 24 hours (bar night-time sleeping) watching the Food Network/Travel Channel; no matter how much energy you’ve accumulated through consuming dark chocolate and Cream Top Raspberry Brown Cow yogurt:
Do not go for a 45 minute walk along a highway in -4°C/24°F weather.
It may feel exhilarating for the first ten minutes, and quite pleasant for the ten after that, but once you turn around and are facing the wind?
You will freeze your face.
And your toes, if you’re lucky enough to still be wearing the glorious post-surgery footwear of sandals and socks (blue socks with orange spots – the fashionista’s choice).
But mostly, your face. YOUR FACE.
[End PSA]

Brave girl … walking into bitter wind is not fun. Hope you had a nice warm shower or bath on your return.
Nearly froze to the point of incapacitation, when I left the car at work and tried walking the 20 minutes home in Reston, Va, after the traffic became grid-locked in snow. Learnt my lesson…….
I sympathise – I can remember walking into the wind on a cold March day in Washington and wondering if my cheekbones would ever thaw out. They did but the memory lingers on. Go south young woman, go south.
If only I’d been able to warn you all off such activities earlier. I’d love to head south again, but I’m in fact only going further north in the next month or so…
